CBD, Cannabidiol
CBD is short for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a component found in hemp and other similar plants. Cannabidiol does not give you a “high” however it may provide relief to pain and anxiety. At least one form of CBD is used to treat epilepsy. CBD has anti-inflammatory properties and may help with chronic pain. There is ongoing research to determine if CBD has anti-oxidative properties which may reduce the growth of tumors. With so many potential benefits, one must ask, are CBD-containing products legal in the USA?
Is CBD Legal?
The answer is complicated. States which legalized the use of medical marijuana will also have legalized the use of CBD for medical and recreational use. Some states prohibit the use of marijuana (because it gives you a “high”) but allow the use of CBD (because it does not give you a high). lastly, in some states, marijuana and CBD products are not legal and cannot be made, sold, or used. It is noteworthy that the growth of hemp (where CBD is extracted from) is legal across all 50 states thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill which took hemp off the Controlled Substances Act.
